                                       Information Technology Library Assistant

Would you enjoy working as part of a team in which collegiality, creativity, and openness to change, are highly valued and respected?  If so, you may be the candidate the Oskaloosa Public Library is looking for!  The Oskaloosa Public Library, located in the heart of Oskaloosa, Iowa, is seeking a Library Technician to manage its technologies and present outstanding customer service at its two service desks.

The Information Technology Library Assistant will:
·         Administer library computers, LAN (Local Area Network), Internet stations, communications systems, all computer networks with other regional entities, public access computers and any new technology systems the library might acquire.
·         Provides technical assistance and training to library personnel in the performance of their duties.
·         Oversee the library’s automated circulation system.
·         Maintains the library’s patron files.
·         Produces daily, weekly, monthly, and annual circulation reports as requested by the Library Director.
·         Oversees the library’s web site.
·         Creates and deletes email accounts as needed.
·         Troubleshoot equipment problems.
·         Work closely with the Library Cataloger to assure accuracy and consistency of MARC records.
·         Stay abreast with new developments in the technological field in order to recommend needed changes and equipment to the Director.
·         Recommend needed policies and procedures to the Library Director.
·         Work at library reference and circulation desks.

Qualifications for this position include:
·         Knowledge of current library science practices and trends, particularly in the area of technology.
·         Experience with a wide variety of computer technology, including applications and networking.
·         Ability to communicate with the Library Director, library personnel, and others in the technology field.
·         Ability to read and understand technological information and reports.
·         An Associate’s degree or vocational certificate with major work in computer science or other job-related area.  Some work experience in public libraries is preferred.  (Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acceptable).  

Preferred qualifications:
·         Knowledge of Koha Open Source Integrated Library System

POSITION SUMMARY:
In addition to overseeing Circulation functions, the Information Technology Library Assistant is responsible for the management and care of all technological equipment in the library.  Work is performed in accordance with professional standards and policies set forth by the Library Board of Trustees.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ø  Must be sighted.
Ø  Must be able to hear normal conversations.
Ø  Must be able to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
Ø  Must be able to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, turn, crouch, and sit for periods of time.
Ø  Must be able to use hands to finger and grasp, to reach in any direction.
Ø  Must be able to lift objects 40 pounds from a lower to higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
